Christmastime in San Francisco means lights around the Embarcadero Center and the Beacon on top of the Transamerica building.
I wanted to take a picture with all these lights plus the streetlights of the pier, at blue hour. On a clear evening I went to Pier 7 before sunset and waited. Blue hour took only 5 minutes and I had to share my spot with a French panorama photographer, so with 30 second exposures I could only get a few in. Unfortunately the lights were not cooperating; the beacon came on a bit late and the pier lights were turning on and off randomly (it did not look like they were meant to do that); this is the only picture where only one of the lights is out, they were never all on at the same time.
The 'star' in the middle of the image is actually Venus! A local came over to talk to me to make sure I was aware of that. He seemed relieved that I knew already.
